With Heart Holiday Update

The holidays are coming… are you prepared?

We are!

Until December 15th, With Heart is offering free gift wrapping* on all purchases as our way of helping you out during this busy season!

We have been busy searching out the latest and greatest in handmade and hard-to-find jewellery, accessories, gifts and home decor since our launch in October.

From handmade retro-style aprons, crystal, glass & bronze jewellery, feathered headbands and fascinators, personal alarms and luxury French bath products, With Heart has the perfect gift for the guy or gal who craves a little originality in their life.

New this month is the fabulous line Dolorous, brainchild of jewellery designer Danielle Singer.

Edgy bodychains and metallic touches are softened with romantic antique crystal elements, cameos and shimmer.

Check out this amazing crystal body chain that converts into a gorgeous statement necklace, or the delicate hand-poured resin cameo pendants that were cast from an original antique cameo.

Also new to the shop is the Boojiboo line of handmade retro aprons. These puppies are the perfect gift for any hostess or aspiring hostess, and also make a great conversation piece at your next dinner party!

Each apron is made from an original Boojiboo design and handmade by Boojiboo and her daughters. Funky fabrics and flattering designs bring the 40′s, 50′s and 60′s back to life with a new dash of style and colour!

But what if your giftee is a guy, you say? We’ve got you covered.

With Heart has a Guy Stuff section of original & interesting stuff to choose from.

Why not help him speak to his individuality with this Lost Apostle Raven Skull pendant in bronze and leather? Definitely a manly choice.

Does he like to travel the world, or wish he could? This Luckies Scratch Map is a super-fantastic choice. It’s like a lotto scratch ticket, but in map form! Scratch off the countries you have visited to reveal a coloured world map underneath. Keep track of where you’ve been, and where you “need to go”!

As always, free pickup is availble in Toronto and Oakville. If you are outside of those areas, we are pleased to offer easy flat-rate shipping to anywhere in North America. Simply choose your shipping or pickup option during checkout.

*Free gift wrapping is available on all purchases. In your shopping cart, just select which items you would like wrapped and we’ll take care of it. Here’s an example of the wrapping:

Happy Shopping!

Rock the Vote! Round 1

Greetings, fellow shoppers!

Have you ever been surrounded by dozens of beautiful things, but could only choose one or two to take home with you?

That’s how I feel right now.

I am trying to beef up the selection on With Heart for the winter holidays (OMG Christmas is SO CLOSE!) but can only get a few lines in right away. So I’m putting it to a vote.

This is a great way for you to have your say and tell me which lines you wish to see on the shop in the near future. Sound off in the comment sections, send me an email and/or cast your vote in the poll to the right. I will take everything into consideration and bring the most popular lines into the store right away.

Don’t worry if your fave doesn’t make it in this time though, I think they’re all fabulous and will likely add them too! Just not right now…

As the shop progresses, I’ll be bringing new lines in and more for you to vote on! This is only round 1 :)

As always, I welcome any product or artist suggestions, just drop me a line with a few details and the staff and I will get to work! (Yes, I have staff now!)

What are you waiting for? Go check out the new lines!

Rock the Vote #2: Heba Kandil

Wooden Bracelet in wood & silver tubing SRP $120

About Heba:

Currently studying Jewellery and Metalsmithing at OCAD University, my approach to production is very process and conceptually based. With a strong passion for culture, politics, perceptions and making outlandish observations, I find it leading to be an interesting development and inspiration in my work.
Jewellery is a versitile medium in that I use it as a platform which I can project my own agenda. The context of the body is challening and conceptually plentiful and a medium which I use more as a canvas to portray a message or play with notions of adornment more then aesethetics alone.

The produciton of sculptural and conceptual works seem to a more natural inclination for me, thus my body of work in that section is a little more plentiful, however I find the design of beautfiul body adornment to be just as challenging and rewarding.

Rock the Vote #1: Dolorous

Crystal Lariat by Dolorous SRP $75

Dolorous Jewelry is a collection of hand made pieces conceived and designed by Danielle Singer, based and produced in her hometown of Toronto.

The designs stem from a strong foundation in sculpture and three dimensional study, which evolved into jewelry production through formal education in goldsmithing and metal work.

Brass chain and various vintage components are the primary materials used in the Dolorous collection. Due to the nature of these materials, slight variances in colour or marks of age may be present, or may develop with wear. The materials are chosen deliberately, and the tarnish that develops is intended to add to the organic aesthetic of the pieces.

Ever-changing Logos

So what’s up with all the With Heart logos?

It’s all part of the essence of the shop!

One of the main features of the shop is that the inventory and artists are always going to be changing as we search out the latest and greatest. With Heart is not static, so neither is our logo!

Currently, there are 15 logo designs in the wings, waiting to be rotated in. It’s a nice way to keep things fresh and exciting. Each logo is easily definable as a With Heart logo, the text stays the same (for the continuity aspect of the shop) but the heart itself will change colours and designs depending on the seasons, or just how we feel!

This feel of continuity/change is present in all our materials (business cards, stickers, labels, products) which is why we feel it is an integral part of our shop, part of the essence of With Heart.

Oh yeah, it’s fun, too :)

Artist Profile: Featherband

Artist Profile: Featherband

Amanda Wu

Name: Amanda Wu
Age: 26
Location: Toronto, ON

So, what kind of stuff do you create?
I make feathered headbands and accessories. They range from avant garde and Royal Wedding-esque to ready to wear.

How did you get into it? What’s your story?
I’ve always been into art and working with my hands. I was laid off about 2 years ago close to the holidays and was on a budget, but still wanted to give my girl friends awesome presents. Feathered headbands were so in at the time and as crafty person, I would think, “Pfft! I can make that!”, and so I did. My friends loved them. I made too many, so I started selling them online on Facebook.

What is your favourite thing to make? Or do you even have one?
I really enjoy making crazy fascinators like those at the Royal Ascot or in fashion shows. It’s kind of outrageous to see what people put on their heads! I recently made a headpiece of a bird in a bird’s nest thinking it would just be a showpiece, but to my surprise, I sold 2 in the last week!

What do you love about your crafting?
I love that it gives me a sense of self expression. My day job is a very detail oriented and administratively heavy position, so it’s nice to go home and let my creativity take over. I like making things that are elegant but a little quirky. Just like me!

Express yourself!

Do you have a day job or is crafting your permanent gig?
I wish crafting was my permanent gig! Right now I work full-time as a project coordinator, but hopefully one day I will be able to rely on Featherband as my full-time business.

Explain a little about the process you go through to make your items.
Plug in glue gun, cover base with felt, clip, primp and glue feathers, all the while watching tv shows online. Repeat for 4 hours.

What is the biggest challenge facing crafters/artists today?
I think artists forget that they have to be businesspeople too. I’m not the most talkative person you’ll meet but I’ve forced myself to put myself out there to network with people and make contacts to promote my business. The arts community is actually quite friendly and supportive. If you have a great product or talent, don’t be afraid to promote it.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
If I had a superpower, I would have the ability to clone myself for a few hours and then put myself back together. Things would get done so much quicker that way!

Tell us something cool about yourself!
My first crafty business was making beaded bracelets with peoples’ names spelled out. I sold them for $5 on the playground in elementary school when I was in the 4th grade.
